My Guardian Angel is a Brand of Scooter???

After just finishing a financial book on retirement I decided that I needed something a bit lighter to read. My personal book collection is like a mini-version of a Barnes & Noble, featuring something from just about every potential category. I was drawn to the book The Angel Therapy Handbook, by Doreen Virtue. The book talks about the Hierarchy of Angels, and how to connect with your Angels for guidance and healing. So I decided to not just read the book, but to take the advice and try the exercises.

Doreen explains that we each have two Guardian Angels. She says we should call them by their names. But in order to do that, we have to learn their names first. This is done through simple meditation and asking the question.  The names that come to you in your meditation, no matter how strange, are likely the name of your Guardian Angels. During my meditation, I received one name...Vespa.

Not sure if I can get much stranger than Vespa.  Hmmm...I researched the name hoping to find an inspiring story. I learned Vespa means wasp in Italian, and it is a popular brand of scooter. Not so inspiring, is it? At least not yet.

Our egos can create a lot of self-doubts when doing this type of energy work. Is Vespa a product of my imagination? This is why Doreen says to ask your Guardian Angel to send you a sign to validate the information. So I was thinking I would be cut off in traffic by a Vespa scooter. Afterall, scooters are not popular in my neighborhood so it would be a rare sighting. The other would be being stung by a wasp, though not something I really want as a sign from a Guardian Angel.

But Doreen is quick to point out not to tell your Guardian Angel what sign to send. I supposed if it worked that way, you would then convince yourself it was a product of looking for the sign and therefore invalidate the experience.

My sign came quick and unexpected. That afternoon I was in the backyard playing with Kramer (my 6-Month old granddog). I chased Kramer across the hill in the back of our yard and there it was right in my path. It was a feather. Not a small feather from the robins and sparrows the pup is known to chase. From tip to tip, this feather is 10.75 inches. A rather big feather to find. And it is pure white. So, I looked up the meaning of finding a feather. I came across the following graphic and wouldn't you know, the white feather means a message from your Angel. Wow!

Well then, I guess I have a Guardian Angel named Vespa.

Things to avoid if you are in the market for a new house.

So you think you have found the perfect home. Well, not so fast. Here are some basic characteristics in a home or its location that you are best to avoid. They are high-tension power lines; dump sites; graveyards; churches; buildings that had violent deaths; houses on stilts, houses close to emergency services (fire, police, hospital). These are examples of negative influences that are taken in through our five senses that can still impact us even if we think we can get used to them. If you are already living near these things, then there are some solutions to reduce the effect. Of course, the most effective is to avoid them all together.

When you are house hunting be sure to use all of your senses around and in the home to identity visual, smell and sound issues that you really don't like. Sometimes we get excited about a place and choose to look the other way or we are simply distracted by key features we are attracted too. Well, just like newlyweds, eventually the honeymoon is over and what once might be tolerable, can become bothersome over time.

Traffic patterns in the home can lead to traffic accidents for home occupants

Entering your home can stir up both good or bad energy, depending on the location of the door. Although the main door of the home  has been described as the mouth in which fresh energy enters the home, it is not always the door people use.

In suburban life,  most people enter through an attached garage or an alternative entry near parking. As we enter a home we are "activating" or stirring-up the type of energy in which the door is located within the home. Personally, my entrance from the garage happens to be in a better pattern then the front door. I gladly reserve the main entrance for guests, while my family spends their time entering and exiting through the laundry room to the garage. The traffic pattern from the garage door into the home includes the kitchen and breakfast area, which is common in newer floor plans around the Midwest.

This statement is also true for most clients, and in one specific case, the garage entrance and traffic pattern activated a unfavorable energy pattern. This energy pattern was known for increasing chances of car accidents, lawsuits and arguments. After the initial analysis, I identified this as an area for correction and why.

The client told me that since moving into the home all of the occupants have been involved in accidents. She also noticed that when arguments occurred, it seemed to be in this same area. This high traffic area started through her garage entrance and continuing into the kitchen and breakfast areas to fully enter the home. Before moving into this home she had not been in a car accident during her driving career, and since moving into this home it happened more than once to her, and the other occupants.

When you were born might just be key to getting a good nights sleep.

Basically we have 8 directions to sleep our head towards. Four of the directions are good for you, and four are bad. Which one's are bad for you? This all depends on when you were born according to the solar calendar, and if you are male or female.  This designates the first breath of energy you took in your life and determines the energy that is most supportive to you.

Either you will fall into the West Group (W,SE,NW,NE) or East Group (S, SE, E, N) categories.

There is an ancient methodology called Eight Mansions (East/West) which is used to determine your best and worse directions for sleeping, working among other things.  This application also determines furniture directions as well as if there are any key doors, rooms, etc. that maybe aligned with non supportive directions. This approach is one of many layers of methods applied in Feng Shui.

I am definitely a proponent of having a my head towards my favorable sleeping direction. I have done this in my last two houses and definitely noticed a difference in my sleeping patterns and ability to get a restful sleep (at least when in there is no snoring from my spouse.)

Haunted Lemp Mansion was a Blueprint for Suicide

Suicide and Mental Health blueprint.

Every home or building has an energy blueprint. To be clear, we are not talking about the architectural drawing of the home. Think of it as the DNA that provides the instructions for the type of energy residing in your building space.   While there are a variety of possibilities, there are definite patterns that seem to influence the occupant's health, relationships and even finances, generally speaking. These influences have been identified over thousands of years of observation and collection.

Sometimes, it is easier to explain when you hear an example of how the energy blueprint can impact a building and its occupants. To demonstrate, let's look at the Lemp family, a famous St. Louis beer dynasty prior to prohibition . The Lemps were a wealthy, influential brewing giant in their time, late 1800s through early 1900s. The Lemp Mansion was converted to a restaurant and bed & breakfast several years ago. It is nationally renowned, not for its cooking...but its ghosts. Books have been written on the Lemp mansion's haunted history, and it is known as one of the most haunted (#2 or 3) as I recall, places to visit in America.

The ghosts that haunt the mansions are reportedly those of the Lemp family. Three suicides occurred in the Mansion. Two other members died at the Mansion in their prime, but causes were related to poor health. I visited the mansion to assess the property.

While this should no longer surprise me, I was still taken back to discover that the pattern associated with this property was connected to energy patterns associated with potential suicide and mental illness.

Based on this, I also looked at the years of deaths of all members in question. I looked at the annual energy influences during the years the members of the Lemp family died.  The 3 family members who committed suicide in the Mansion had occurred in years in which the annual energy pattern was identical, though their suicides occurred in different decades. The members who died prematurely of health problems died in years in which the annual patterns differed from the 3 suicides in the mansion.

For me, this was an outstanding find, because it painted a clear picture of the influences the house had on its occupants. The overall pattern was very good for money, especially during the period before prohibition, when the Lemp Brewery was in its prime. But, the overall pattern was poor for supporting health and people. Combined with poor internal energy combinations, this would make the home that much more influential on the people living inside the home.

Hauntings And Feng Shui: Avoiding the Paranormal Home (Part 2)

There is a is a universal energy at work and it makes our entire solar system function; it governs the physical features of this planet and operates through nature; it determines how planets must move; it is the creator of human nature, and understands the DNA of all life. You can call it a mix of protons, neutrons, life force, the great spirit, God, or whatever fits your belief system. You can choose to understand this force through a religious belief, or you can choose to understand this force through a more scientific system, like Quantum Physics.

The bottom line is everything is some form of energy. In paranormal cases, researchers are trying to understand through the change in energy, if hauntings are real. However, there are certain methods that have existed for centuries that deal with the probabilities for hauntings, thus it is a good decision to avoid properties with these characteristics. To violate these rules, is to take the risk that you may end up with uninvited guests of the paranormal kind. Here are a few basic rules:
  1. Don't live in a home (or build a home) where violent deaths occurred.
  2. Don't live next to a cemetery or on top of a burial ground.
  3. Don't build on land considered sacred by the local native people, live in a former church or a funeral home, or next to a hospital.
  4. Renovations and construction can stir up energy that has negative influences such as accidents, delays, and all-around bad luck. Renovations are often sited as a trigger for haunting experiences.
The above are pretty obvious clues. Here are ones related to specific energy patterns that a practitioner can calculate.
  1. Don't hang wind chimes in your home. This can be a trigger for hauntings if it is located with a certain negative energy patterns.
  2. Homes with overly passive energy patterns can also be candidates for hauntings.
I worked on a research project several years ago studying the patterns homes where there was evidence of activity.
  1. Most of the buildings were old, and they are in their "dead" cycle in terms of the quality of energy pattern. The dead cycle meaning that the home is built in a period in which the energy cycle is longer increasing in momentum, or not even decreasing in its energy pattern. It is basically at a halt.
  2. Most of the buildings have the least desirable energy blueprints, which is bad for health and bad for wealth.
  3. Most have a electrical transformer close to the building (not just the pole and electrical wires, but the actual transformer is on the pole).
  4. Underground water veins from natural spring/cavern type formations or old large trees that are deeply rooted in the ground.
  5. Many are on raised land (hill).
We can hypothesize that these characteristics are influences that increase the chances for paranormal activity to occur. Most likely the combination of the geography, the home's energy blueprint, and the type of energy created from past occupants are a recipe for paranormal activity. Why, or how it occurs is still not known.

Hauntings And Feng Shui: Avoiding the Paranormal Home Part 1

Sometimes avoiding some properties is the best way to harmonize with the environment. In the case of paranormal energy, or "hauntings" there are ways to look at the building and its environment to determine contributing factors to this phenomenon. This article explores environments and patterns to avoid with the type of properties that have been documented by paranormal researches as having paranormal activity.

Most people have some sort of belief in the afterlife. Most talk about the soul or spirit leaving the body after death. And though the story will vary by culture and religion, I find it amusing so many believers of the afterlife scoff at the notion that ghosts and spirits exist. But better research tools, more information about experiences and consistence evidence (though circumstantial) is building the case to validate people's experiences.

Paranormal studies often consider "energy" as a key characteristic in determining if a building has activity of the unexplained. As paranormal researchers seek to document evidence of a haunting and other unexplained events, the devices used are ones that allow them to read or capture fluctuations in energy patterns. Sometimes cameras and recorders are used to capture things that the five senses can not detect on their own. Thermal imaging cameras, temperature sensitive tools, and EMF devices are just a few items in their arsenal.

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, there is something to be said about strange occurrences with credible witnesses and unexplained evidence that makes us all realize we know less then we are willing to admit. The universe itself is a major unexplained phenomenon that no scientist or religious leader can state with conviction on how it works, why it works, nor can they proclaim we know everything there is to know about life itself.

Bad Feng Shui: Overgrown Bushes and Car Parts

It's Spring time which means weather is ripe outdoor projects. To create good Feng Shui, survey the outside of your home for negative influences on the property. Walk around the exterior of your home. What do you see?

Broken fixtures, fences, windows and any obvious feature in need of repair is a negative influence. Look for items not considered part of the natural "outdoor" environment. Examples are broken wheel barrels, car parts, and indoor furniture sitting outside. Invest in a garden shed if you are overflowing with items that you use. This prevents rusting and rotting in the outdoor environment. And of course, it puts them out-of-sight for you and your neighbors.

If your trees and shrubs are overgrowing it's time to trim them back. They should not overpower the home. And they should never block the energy path to your door. Bushes and shrubs are good for slowing down energy which is called for in some cases. But overgrowth is not. Call a local professional to reshape bushes and plants if too tough to tackle on your own.

After you have assessed the external property make a list of the negative influences observed on your walk. Tackle the easy projects first. Major projects might require more effort, planning and financial resources.

Taking the time to improve the area outside of your home creates a positive influence for the occupants. It also is positive for the neighbors in close proximity. The value of your home and  neighborhood are often judged by how well the occupants take care of the property. Do what you can to contribute to creating a positive environment.

When Identical Homes are Not Identical

Good Feng Shui can be the result of the layout of your home. Two identical homes in the same neighborhood can provide different results. Here is a past case that demonstrates the impact of two identical homes, with simply the layout flipped.

The client moved from the first home to the second home.  The first home had a small yard. The house behind it sat higher and uncomfortably close. This home did not lend itself to the feeling of peacefulness. And it is what inspired her to move. The second  home backed to a scenic area of the golf course.

The two homes had the same energy blueprint. The energy blueprint is the pattern of energy calculated in the home. It is based on the sitting and facing direction of the building and construction year.  The key difference between the two homes was the floorplan.

In the first home, the Master Bedroom and office were in areas that were strong influences for arguments, fights and illnesses. These are two key areas where most people spend time in their home. For this client, these influences had manifested in a relationship.

Overall, the client had made a better choice for her second home. The biggest difference was the position of the Master Bedroom and Office. They resided in better areas of the blueprint then the first home.

Both homes required a water feature on the back side of the home to support overall money. A real water feature is preferred, but a natural slope (depending on how steep it is) can be a substitute for a virtual water feature. Fortunately, she had both a real water feature and a preexisting slope to support prosperity luck. Her new home was a peaceful retreat which was personally beneficial to her well-being.

What is interesting is she made these choices not knowing anything about the advanced Feng Shui. For her she didn't feel comfortable in the first home, though it was identical to the second home in size, feature and design.  She made an intuitive decision that was on the mark.

A Locksmith Won't Have This Key To Unlock Your Home.

Energy patterns change all the time, every minute of every day according to Feng Shui. Each home has a unique energy pattern based on time, magnetic direction, and floor plan.  Eventually, time passes and the cumulative effects begin to have an impact on the occupants. The time periods commonly evaluated are on an annual basis and in accordance with a 20-year cycle.

During these periods buildings can go through a people or money "lock". This is based on the energy pattern calculated in your home. A people lock impacts health and relationships negatively for the occupants. A money lock can impact your finances and career (ability to make money).

In both occurrences, water is needed outside the home to release the lock. A lock can be for a year, which means money may be tight, or you may be bothered by more frequent health or relationship issues during the year of the lock. Typically, it could be something you get through, and just being aware of it can help you make better decisions. But a lock that is for a 20-year period takes its toll over time and can be more severe. This could show up as a continuous struggle for a long time if it goes uncorrected.

Every home eventually goes through a lock, but timing is different based on the home's unique pattern. As we begin to go through a new cycle, the impact may not be immediate. It could begin slowly and increase over time.  Increased health, relationship, financial or career problems may be signs that you are dealing with a lock.

Placing a water feature outside the home that includes clean, moving water can help release the lock. During the current cycle (2004-2023) there are beneficial locations to place water, and there is a specific place (Northeast section of your lot) that you want to avoid because it can impact your finances or your health negatively.

6 Strategies to Tackle Clutter at Home

When it comes to Feng Shui, I am a fan of the traditional teachings.  But, I must admit, there is one aspect of Western Feng Shui I am on board with: clearing clutter from living and work spaces.

Disorganization and clutter can be tiring. It nags at your subconscious to "deal with it". Having to function in it wastes your personal energy. Can't find what you are looking at the moment it's needed? Need to step out of your way to get to something important? It's time to pitch the clutter!

Clutter can be in plain sight, or hidden behind a door.  It may be disguised as a "collection" of stuff gathered over the years (furniture, books, etc.). Or perhaps it's a hobby that has become an addiction (collecting sports cards, shot glasses, magazines, toys, etc.).  We all have clutter that needs to be dealt with at some point.

1. Schedule a day, time and manageable space to get in the mood. Starting with a manageable space gives you the chance to experience the feeling of accomplishment. Unclutter a staircase, hallway, bookshelf or office desk as a good start. It can give you the energy and motivation to tackle the next space. Once complete, schedule the date and space to keep the momentum going.

2. Prioritize a space that creates daily chaos. What is the ROI in Time (Return on Investment) for cleaning the space.  Where do you waste most of your time in looking for stuff? Is it the kitchen, living area, bedroom or a closet? Pick a spot where you immediately benefit from clearing the space.

3. Deal with fear-based clutter. More often then not we have a fear of letting go. People hold on to stuff because of the memories (good and bad), or guilt. Maybe you inherited stuff you really don't want, but feel guilty if you get rid of it.  Fluffy died two years ago, but you still have her bed? Holding on to painful memories can make us stuck in the misery of that pain. Letting go is a way to heal those wounds and move on in life.

Some fears are embedded at an early age. My Mom grew up in the Great Depression. She held on to everything believing some day she might need it. After years this kind of clutter fills garages, attics, basements and storage units. Re-purposing can be a great way to save money in sparse times, but often it just a reason for holding on to things we never use. Holding on to something because one day you might use it is borderline selfish.

Someone less fortunate could make use of stored furniture, clothes or electronics.  When my Mom downsized her home she had to get rid of a lot of old clothes, furniture, and inherited pieces. She told her parish priest she was not happy about getting rid of her stuff. He reminded her she couldn't take a U-Haul to heaven. That's great advice. If you no longer use it, LOSE IT!

4. Get rid of organized clutter. Lean manufacturing has a phrase "just in case equals waste". If the excuse to keep stuff is "just in case" then it's likely clutter.  A friend of mine  has a highly organized closet. Her arrangement included ensembles of multiple different sizes.  She vacuum-sealed very expensive shirts, dresses and suits. She had lost and gained weight multiple times over the years. She kept them to wear again once she lost weight.

But, the reality is she would never wear them again for two reasons. First, the clothes were out of style.  Second, they did not motivate her to lose weight. They were a painful reminder of a life-long struggle with weight. They represented the hard work, commitment and time it would take to lose multiple dress sizes. The clothes became a mountain-sized obstacle to losing weight. But, after donating her clothes, she felt energized and empowered. It was enough to start taking small steps to a healthier lifestyle. Clearing clutter can be therapeutic.

5. If you can't tackle it alone, recruit a friend or relative. But choose wisely. Getting an objective view helps us in the process of letting go. It's hard to see the forest when you live among the trees. Only recruit someone that lives in an organized, clutter-free space. The last thing you need is another clutter-bug to justify keeping your crap. Or, having them adopt your crap for their own cluttered space. Clutter-free people know how to get it done, and get a thrill from helping others do the same. They can help you get the extra energy boost you need to tackle an overwhelming space.

6.  Consider a therapist if it's really out of control. Some people suffer from hoarding disorder. According to the American Psychiatric Association:  "People with hoarding disorder excessively save items that others may view as worthless. They have persistent difficulty getting rid of or parting with possessions, leading to clutter that disrupts their ability to use their living or work spaces. Hoarding disorder can cause problems in relationships, social and work activities and other important areas of functioning." It can become a health and safety problem for the occupants.

Less than 6% of the population have a hoarding disorder, so chances are you can tackle the clutter without a psychiatrist. But do not rule out therapy if it helps you deal with letting go of the clutter.

Every House Has An Energy Blueprint

Traditional Feng Shui has four overarching themes to determine the quality of energy in a building. The quality determines the influence on the occupants. Specifically, the influence on health, relationships and finances. The home's sitting direction and year constructed determines this pattern.

These overarching themes define the strength or weakness of the building.  The following describes the four types, in order of Best (1) to worse (4)

1. An energy blueprint good for wealth and health of the occupants.
2. An energy blueprint good for health, but weak for wealth.
3. An energy blueprint good for wealth, but weak for health.
4. An energy blueprint weak for health and wealth.

Fortunately, if the home falls into outcomes 2, 3, or 4 there are methods to create balance.   This is typically done by introducing new elements outside the home. Sometimes the elements naturally exist and nothing needs to be done. But, when a balance is needed, a practitioner may add a water element to the back to support wealth. Examples would be a fountain with flowing water.   A meandering stream on the backside may be a natural solution for water.

Or, they may add a mountain element to the front to support health for the occupants. It sounds mysterious, but a 'mountain' element may exist already. An example is a house across the street, large trees, and of course real mountains.

The difficulty (imho) is specific Feng Shui advice varies by Masters. The differing opinions are whether the pattern warrants correction. Some teach the pattern doesn't matter if a specific trigger is missing from the environment. Others recommend correcting it regardless of surrounding elements. Despite this discrepancy, they tend to have common solutions to balance the building.

Yes, the Force IS with you. It's called Chi and a bunch of other Names Skeptics Hate.

Most people are familiar with the character Yoda from the movie series Star Wars. Yoda wisely told his young apprentice that the "force" is in everything, and it flows through everything, including his apprentice. Imagine the "force" being the energy that connects us all. It is everywhere and part of everything. Yoda was a fictional character, but science confirms everything is made of energy.

Various cultures call it Chi, Ki, Qi (chee) Prana, Virya, etc.  Perhaps science will be able to label these as subatomic particles at some point in our lifetime. But right now loosely defined "energy" is the bridge between the esoteric practices like Feng Shui, Reiki, Law of Attraction, etc. and modern science.

Will Scientists Discover the Nature of  Chi?

When the academic egos are set aside good things happens in science. It seems there are more professionals (scientists, psychologists, physicists, researchers, etc.) willing to share opinion, theories and results from experiments on taboo subjects. Or perhaps, the internet and television are exploding with new media channels creating the illusion of interest from more professionals.

Personally, I am willing to accept overwhelming amount of credible people having experiences as proof enough.  Even if it is currently not possible to prove how it works and why. And this is where science needs to be willing to take it to the next level. Get rid of the fear of academic ridicule. After all, the point of scientific advancement should be discovery, not maintaining we know everything through our current view of the world.

The CERN lab is a great example of being open-minded.The BELIEF in theoretical physics was compelling enough to invest over 13 billion dollars to discover a single particle - the Higgs-boson. And it was just as possible the results would debunk Higgs-boson and particle theory! Imagine...billions of dollars with the risk to wipe out an entire field of academic study, and decades of work. That is a big risk for a group of scientists. But, it proves some are willing to take the risk for discovery. And that is good news.

Are there Scientific Discoveries Hidden in the Ancient Sciences?

It is safe to say with certainty our environment is made of energy. Humans are made of energy. We interact with our environment. Theoretically, Feng Shui teaches that interaction has an influence on us if we are around it long enough. Sometimes the environmental influence is not observable. Results are measured through observation, which have been collected over many, many years.

So why not explore ancient sciences?   Removing the cultural beliefs or religious symbols embedded into old teachings may reveal familiarity with current science. Feng Shui (traditional version) has a connection to binary codes, magnetic energy, and space/time theories and it dates back thousands of years.

It was a way for ancient science to explain nature at work without the advantage of modern technology.

Sometimes we have to pursue what we can't see. Theory, observation and circumstantial evidence has to be good enough until we can begin to even formulate how to prove it. We can't see a radio wave, but we know they exist. The belief, led to discovery, which lead to inventions like radio, television, mobile phones, remote controls, microwave, etc.

History is riddled with unpopular scientific theories that were proven accurate. The likes of Copernicus and Galileo were considered crazy heretics. Once there was compelling evidence to create momentum, belief changed to scientific fact.

Today, we have a particle collider and massive computers to observe the once non-observable in nature. Data is providing a whole new look on the nature of the universe. So perhaps, even by accident, the nature of chi will be defined as a particle, or a group of interacting particles.
